Do you know a distinguished teacher or exceptional TA? Here’s your chance to recognize them! Nominations are now open for these teaching awards: The Distinguished Teacher Awards (DTA) and Amit & Meena Chakma Awards for Exceptional Teaching by a Student (AETS). Nomination sheets for DTA can be picked up at both libraries (DC and DP), SLC’s Turnkey desk and EV1 325. Drop boxes will also be available at these locations. Nominations for the AETS are submitted by email to email@example.com. (Nomination forms for AETS are available online at http://cte.uwaterloo.ca/teaching_awards_and_grants/index.html?tab=1). The deadline to submit DTA and AETS nominations is Friday, February 1, 2013 and Friday, February 8, 2013 respectively. The event is hosted by Eric Friesen, UWaterloo alumnus and accomplished media personality and international music specialist, and will include James Bradshaw, Postsecondary Education reporter at the Globe & Mail; Charles Finlay, VP and Senior legal Counsel at BMO, Toronto; and former UWaterloo English grads Archana Rampure, National Researcher for the Canadian Union of Public Employees; Samantha Trieu, Marketing Programs Specialist at Fongo; and Russell Wong, Manager of Marketing and Communications, UWaterloo Engineering.

Meetings are at four o’clock on Tuesdays this term, for now they will be held in the English Society Office, Hagey Hall room 260.
There’s a department tea party this Thursday at four in Hagey Hall 232.
The English Society’s zine, Codex, is once again open for submissions. Email the English Society (at firstname.lastname@example.org) with any poetry, short fiction (up to 1200 words), or even non-fiction. Drawings and photographs are also accepted, but may be subject to xerox! You can also drop off a physical copy at the office, just put it in the folder or slide it under the door. If you’d like to be added to the mailing list, please send a note our way.
